Visual IFPS Plus for Business or Copyright and Multimedia Products

Visual IFPS/Plus for Business

Author: Paul Gray

The Interactive Financial Planning System (abbreviated Visual IFPS /Plus) was originally developed in the early 1970's by Dr. Gerald R. Wagner (then a professor at The University of Texas at Austin) and his students. Its original impetus came from the desire to model risk in a way that could be easily understood by executives. The implementation that resulted is a general - purpose financial panning language that is particularly user friendly. Since then, Visual EFPS / Plus has been developed further and marketed by COMSHARE, Incorporated of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and has been widely adopted in both industry and universities.

Copyright and Multimedia Products: A Comparative Analysis

Author: Irini A Stamatoudi

Multimedia products have become highly successful. Yet they are often inadequately protected by existing national and international copyright schemes. This study is one of the first comprehensive, comparative analyses of multimedia works and copyright protection. Stamatoudi considers the nature of the multimedia work, and existing legislation, as well as collections and compilations, databases, audiovisual works and computer programs. Finally, she offers a model for a European legislative solution. Her work will interest academics and students, as well as lawyers and copyright policy makers.

East Asia and the World Economy or Exploring Web Marketing and Project Management Interactive Workbook

East Asia and the World Economy

Author: Stephen Chiu

What role do East Asian states play in the world economy? Can the world-systems model originally designed for studying development in Europe and North America be applied to East Asia? To what extent has the rivalry between the United States and Japan had an impact on the development of East Asia? Examining these and other key questions, the authors offer a clear, comprehensive analysis of the economic development of East Asia. Offering a unique perspective, this book examines the origins and transformation of East Asia from a world-systems analysis. In contrast to the literature's focus on market, culture, state, and dependency, East Asia and the World Economy points to the crucial role of geopolitical and regional factors in East Asian development. The authors provide a cohesive review of the world-systems model as it applies to East Asia, exploring its intellectual heritage, the historical context through which it arose, its basic assumptions, and its policy implications. To illustrate how this model works in East Asia, the authors examine the economies of Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, North Korea, and Japan. The result is a fascinating study that demonstrates how the world-systems model provides a more focused explanation of East Asia's peculiar pattern of development. For scholars and students in the fields of political science, economics, Asian studies, international affairs, and development studies, this book is a must. "This book applies world-systems analysis to explain the peculiar pattern of East Asian development over the past two centuries. . . . It offers a fresh and fascinating approach to the study of economic and political evolution in the East asian nations. The volumeis well organized and written for both scholars and students. It will make an excellent text for an undergraduate course in East Asian Economics and politics." --Choice CONTENTS: I. Theoretical Introduction // 1. From Strategy to Change or Statistics for Business and Economics

From Strategy to Change: Implementing the Plan in Higher Education

Author: Daniel James Rowley

In From Strategy to Change-the last in a series-Daniel James Rowley comes full circle in defining his unique vision of the strategic planning process. Written with Herbert Sherman, From Strategy to Change shows how to take the next step after a strategic plan has been formulated. The authors clearly show how to implement a strategic plan that will meet the myriad challenges of today's complex higher education environment and spell success for the academy.
"It is amazing that while sports teams of colleges and universities meticulously plan their contests against their opponents, their institutions' administrators don't spend nearly enough time or effort in creating and
implementing a strategy. Institutions of higher education seem to be missing the requisite tools to develop and activate their 'play book.' With this new age of globally available real-time information, it becomes increasingly more essential to have a map to help go over and around obstacles, avoid the ever-present pitfalls, and effectively aid in selecting the best route. Rowley and Sherman provide such tools in this exciting and comprehensive new book. I wish that when I was a department chair, president of a faculty senate, and dean that this superb work was available. My function in planning would have been so much easier and more rewarding."
—Barry R. Armandi, Distinguished Teaching Professor, SUNY - Old Westbury

Booknews

Completes a trilogy by Rowley (business, U. of Northern Colorado, Greeley) by exploring how to implement the strategies for changes on college campuses that he sets out in the first two volumes. He and Sherman (professional studies, U. of Southampton, New York) show how the procedures of change can be made sensitive and responsive to people who are affected by them. They include detailed examples of actual strategic plans and the institutions that have implemented them. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

Statistics for Business and Economics: Methods and Applications

Author: Edwin Mansfield

As in previous editions, three principal objectives guided the writing of this book: first, to explain statistical methods used in business and by economists in the clearest possible way; second, to draw case material from real-world situations in order to demonstrate the practical applications of those methods; third, to surround both theory and cases with an abundance of problems, based on real data whenever possible and graded in level of difficulty.

Peddlers and Princes or After Restructuring

Peddlers and Princes: Social Development and Economic Change in Two Indonesian Towns

Author: Clifford Geertz

In a closely observed study of two Indonesian towns, Clifford Geertz analyzes the process of economic change in terms of people and behavior patterns rather than income and production. One of the rare empirical studies of the earliest stages of the transition to modern economic growth, Peddlers and Princes offers important facts and generalizations for the economist, the sociologist, and the South East Asia specialist.
"Peddlers and Princes is, like much of Geertz's other writing, eminently rewarding . . . Case study and broader theory are brought together in an illuminating marriage."—Donald Hindley, Annals of The American Academy of Political and Social Science
"What makes the book fascinating is the author's capacity to relate his anthropological findings to questions of central concern to the economist . . . "—H. G. Johnson, Journal of Political Economy

After Restructuring: Empowerment Strategies at Work in America's Hospitals

Author: Thomas G Rundall

Managing Change

An in depth treatment of organizational change in hospitals. After Restructuring provides a mother-lode of insights and lessons that will be mined for years. A must read for all those committed to improving hospital performance in a radically changing health care system.
--Stephen M. Shortell, Blue Cross distinguished professor of health policy and management professor of organization behavior, School of Public Health, University of California, Berkeley

After Restructuring debunks the myths surrounding hospital change and offers insightful and practical recommAndations for successful restructuring. This valuable book is based on the work of a team of health services researchers headed up by Thomas Rundall, director of the Center for Health Management Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. The book reports the results of a three year study of nine hospitals, an unaffiliated group of facilities in urban, rural, and suburban regions that received funding from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Pew Charitable Trust to restructure patient care processes.

The authors present a framework for understanding organizational change and define the principles that guide change facilitators through the five stages of change--readiness to change, awareness of the need to change, identification and selection of changes, implementation, and institutionalization of changes. The standards derived from the change experiences of these hospitals provide important best practice guidelines.

Megatrends in Retail Real Estate

Author: John D Benjamin

Retail real estate properties and their marketplaces are in a constant state of change. The emergence of new and growing value formats like warehouse clubs, factory outlet malls, and other powerful discount formats provide traditional shopping centers and malls with increasingly competitive challenges. These value and discount retail formats generate higher sales per square foot and have lower construction costs than many traditional retail properties. Combined with the slow growth in retail sales and the increasing alternatives to in-store retailing, the question arises as to the future of retail marketplaces and which retail formats will be the leaders of the future. Megatrends in Retail Real Estate allows one to analyze and forecast changes in the retail marketplace. The book represents a simple model to analyze and predict mall and shopping center investment returns. It then examines the financing of retail properties and securitization of their mortgages, as well as the operations of retail properties. Finally, the book analyzes new retail marketplaces and the international retail arena.

Booknews

Analyzes changes in the retail marketplace, with sections on forecasting the changing retail marketplace, retail real estate investment returns, financing retail properties and mortgage securitization, operations of retail properties, new retail marketplaces, and the international arena. Subjects include malls versus centers, accessing the capital markets, dealing with the loss of an anchor tenant, development of inner-city retail niche markets, and a comparison of shopping centers in Canada and the US.
